I never grew up celebrating Día de los Muertos, but in recent years it has become a tradition that I genuinely look forward to. I love the beautiful and colorful decorations of course, but I also love how much intention goes into crafting your ofrenda, and curating your decorations like papel picado, calaveras, and alebrijes. It feels so comforting to give dedicated time to remembering and celebrating my dearly departed loved ones and to add a lot of beautiful and vibrant art to my home for a short but sentimental season.

I made these alebrije prints both as an homage to this cherished tradition, and as a way to celebrate the beauty, color, and vibrance of these quintessentially Mexican folk-art sculptures.
