As a native Californian, there are few things I love more than seeing quail scurrying around. Every glimpse feels like a thrill when you get to see their striking patterns, their perfectly plump little bodies, and that classic forward-drooping head plume. They are such regal (albeit nervous) little birds, and I am lucky enough to get to see them in my yard every day. This constantly growing family of quail has captivated my imagination for months, and I knew I wanted to make a print that could show off just how beautiful these birds are.

But simply making a quail print didn’t feel quite enough, because while they scream “California”, the perennially blooming poppies and lupines also give me a comforting sense of place. Of home.
