One of my favorite species to work with; the Northern Elephant Seal pup. These dingbats flood into marine mammal rehab facilities up and down the CA coast every year in late winter after they’ve been left to fend for themselves on the beach without mom. This species is known for extremes, boasting titles like “most extreme sexual dimorphism” or “most extreme diver”, but my favorite extreme is how extremely simple minded they are. You look in their eyes and you know no one is home. No thoughts, just vibes. Woodburning elephant seal pups brings out their funny little personalities, like this guy who wants to stand up and see the world pass him by.
